Sharing Planet, Kuching

Today I was invited to Sharing Planet at Stapok for a food tasting session. The last time I dined here was almost three years ago and well, a lot has changed. I am glad for the better. The place is bigger and there are more delicious food variety.

Nine years ago, Sharing Planet started out as what one would call a playground or a hobby. However, throughout the years, it became a serious and thriving business that it even has a second branch at Ban Hock. Over nine years of its existence, I have only been here twice.

I guess it is due to the growth of dining venues in Kuching made me forgot about Sharing Planet. Wait, now I remember. Due to my diet, I rarely dine out for dinner. Almost never.

Anyway, Sharing Planet started out as a place where friends and travelers alike can share their travel memories or tips at the restaurant. Sadly, that concept is just a memory of years gone by. These days, Sharing Planet is known as the restaurant that serves delicious big portion food that is worth sharing.

Sharing Plane restaurant serves Western Fusion cuisines. Today, we tasted some of the chef’s recommended items from the menu.

Chicken Caesar Salad

Honestly, you can share this dish between four people. It is generous and without the mayo dressing, it is still nice (In short, if you want the healthier version, avoid the dressing)

We were speechless when the waiters brought in the main courses. We thought starter was huge. Wait ’till you see the rest of it!

When I saw this on the menu, I couldn’t believe my eyes. What on earth is this? Ice cream on chicken chop? I asked the owner how did this dish came along and he said he was inspired by something of similar style on a Japanese television show. It is definitely weird but it was not that bad.

The mix grill is huge and decently priced. For RM28.90, you get a piece of fried fish, chicken chop, grilled lamb, a foot long chicken sausage with cheese and a generous dollop of mashed potatoes covered in delicious black pepper sauce. Dang. Kenneth, the owner, is thinking of making this a challenge dish. Finish within 15 minutes ON YOUR OWN, you win a prize and a photo on their wall of fame. Maybe one day. Kuching is not prepared. Or are we???

I absolutely love this dish. Simple and yet so flavorful. I always love cajun dishes and this is not disappointing. The homemade tartar sauce is fantastic!

When it comes to Carbonara, it is hard to please the very picky eater, Aslan. Sharing Planet wins him over with this simple yet very flavorful creamy dish. Aslan’s favourite. My Aslan has very good taste and this you ought to try if you are a fan of carbonara.

This dish is a reminiscence of my American honeymoon. Two pieces of deep fried chicken topped with not just sliced cheese but thousand island sauce. Absolutely calorie suicide but once in a while, it is acceptable.

The chef, Mr Zul, was more willing to offer us more dishes to try but we were already full. Secretly, I was saving space for dessert. And the chef read my mind. He served us the most simple and yet so divine chocolate lava with vanilla ice cream. I almost end up in tears upon my first bite.

The beauty of this dessert is how it is not sickeningly sweet. Just the right level of moistness and the chocolate lava is perfect. Vanilla ice cream made the dessert creamy. I know where to go when I need some sinful chocolate fix. Hehehe.
