Mac-Over with Sereni & Shentel at the Photobooth Events

These days, we tend to take things for granted. For instance, we take photos using our digital camera and then post them on Facebook. Sure it is convenient but remember the days when we use to print the film rolls and anticipate the outcome? It does make a difference to see the photos in print form, rather than limited to the screens of technological device.

Talking about instant photos, how many of you loves the photo booth? In Malaysia, our choice of photo booth is limited to the Japanese ones where you take a photo, edit it with stickers etc and have it printed as stickers. Besides that, we have a manual photo booth in which often used for passport photo. Then again, it is not technically a photo booth but, close enough.

We are now at the age of appreciating printed photography. Notice the sudden increase of lomography and polaroid enthusiasts? It does not matter whether it is film or instant, it is more fun to have a physical copy of your photograph.

Sereni & Shentel brings back the fun of photo booth through their latest venture, the Photobooth Events. Thanks to MAC Cosmestics Malaysia and Sereni & Shentel, I was able to experience this fun booth!

Of course, as always, what is a camwhoring session without a makeover? Yours truly was chosen to be the model for the make-up demonstration. I ought to be called the Girl on Water (A cheesy parody of The Hunger Games heroin, Katniss Everdeen’s nickname of the Girl on Fire). I will explain later.

MAC Cosmetics is here to promoted their latest product, Cook and Shop, targeted for the career women who is always on a go, looking for a hassle free and quick fix make-up!

I absolutely love their color range, so fun, quirky, energetic and full of youth!

Before the makeover began, the makeup artist, Harry*, prepped my face with amazing facial care product from MAC. She recommends using similar facial care of the make-up you are using to ensure they are compatible.

Trouble is… La Mer does not have any make-up range, not yet anyway. Meh. Anyway…

Yours truly all prepped up for the make-over. Sereni & Shentel Charlotte in Olive, Long back, short front dress from Cotton On, black cardigan from M&S and black flats with chains from K-Mart Australia.

I have the urge to wear animal print when there is an event by Sereni & Shentel. Can’t explain why.

The secret to even, long lasting and smooth foundation on your face is to mix the liquid foundation, concealer and moisturizer before applying it on the face with a specific brush. That is where the BB cream gets the idea. :D

Harry (I do apologize if I spelled your name wrongly... :( ) decided to use the second color palette on my face. A bit worried because I don't think I look good in blue or green.

I may look calm here but truth is I was having epic tremors within me during the demonstration...

Honestly, I was quite nervous and that led to this ridiculous non-stop sweating. Throughout the make-up demonstration, my sweat glands were working overtime! Damn. I can’t count the number of times poor Harry had to pat off the sweat off my face. So embarrassing! Hence, the title Girl on Water (Because Wet Girl sounds so obscene and pornographic) is officially mine.

Au contraire, Ivy was as cool as ice. The perfect demonstration model!

The best way to apply lipstick is to use a lipstick brush, more even and smooth that way.

Harry did say that, the most minimal make-up one ought to wear would be mascara. Eye is the window to the soul and the first thing that people will notice about you, thus, the phrase eye-catching does justify the need to use mascara daily! :p

The result from the makeover?

Taadaa! My face is now ready for a camwhoring session at the photo booth.

The reason why I am not a fan of blue or green make up is I don’t want to end up looking like this character from The Drew Carey Show…

Inside the booth

The photobooth is portable, easy to install and does not take up much space. Photobooth hire is RM 2500 for three hours with UNLIMITED double strips photos for the event. The package also comes with DVD of all pictures (post event), two weeks online web gallery, fun props, free delivery within Kuching area, one free photo album, free photo album and two photo booth operators to manage it. Ideal for weddings, birthdays, anniversaries, baby showers, hen/stag nights, anything really!

Mushroom Lasagna

Yesterday, I was given packs of fresh button mushroom. I spent the whole night thinking what to do with them. I thought of scrambled eggs with mushrooms but it seemed so boring, I deserted it.

Mmm... Mushrooms... Interestingly enough, they are from Malaysia and yet, bought in Singapore. :p

I wanted to do something more worthwhile, something challenging (Not too hard lah, I am only an amateur cook…) and an inspiration came to me.

Mushroom lasagna. I miss the one from Ben’s in KL, so today I attempted baking one, hoping it would be just as good or even better. :D

To be completely honest, baking a lasagna is very easy. Prepare one serving of white sauce and then whip up a simple Afredo sauce for the mushrooms. Do sauté the mushrooms before mixing it with the Alfredo sauce.

The arrangement for the layering process is simple.

  1. White sauce
  2. Mushroom sauce
  3. Lasagna piece
  4. Repeat till end with the white sauce on top before you sprinkle it with your choice of cheese

Once you’ve done step one to four, put it in an oven at 180′c for 50 minutes or so. The end result? Absolutely beautiful.

Aslan officiated this mushroom lasagna which he thought was epic.

Going Nuts for Donuts

A short entry is better than no entry. I find it hard to blog daily these days due to the lack of activities or events or happenings in my life at the moment. I mean, I can’t blog about stuff I like all the time. That would be so selfish of me.

I will share you my experience molding donuts. My mum makes the best donut ever. Unfortunately, she was quite occupied with work yesterday so she left me with the task of stretching the dough and molding the donuts.

Clearly she does have a lot of faith in me because I have zero experience in donut making. Hopeless with handling dough and what more to mold something from it. Against all odds, I gave my best shot. It took me almost two hours and I molded 78 pieces of donuts (Which I am sure more can be molded, uniformed in size)

These are the saddest looking batch of donuts I have ever seen in my life.

My donuts looked deformed and uneven in size because I am a lousy dough roller. I have no patience whatsoever. That is why I never try baking pastry related items or anything that involves rolling. *shivers*

Surprisingly, once they were all fried and sugared (I made a batch of cinnamon sugar donuts for Aslan’s family because none of my family members dare to eat cinnamon after watching this silly video) they looked beautiful and good enough to eat.

Too lazy for sugar glazed, this will do.

Aefi did the frying because I burnt the first batch. What a loser. Haha. Well, that is all for today!

Another Paradise Awaits…

A virgin when it comes to AirAsiaGo...

Since there is no response from the company I sent the job application and resume to, I bought a holiday package. Seriously, being jobless can get quite depressing. Thank goodness for a part time job.

I have been surfing through this website for so long, I think it is time to give this service a try. I must admit, the total price for a person for a luxurious 5D/4N holiday is unbelievably affordable.

I have sorted out return flights and hotels. The only thing I need to do is research and plan the tours. I am excited. Below is the clue to where I will be heading at the end of the month. :)

The Last Day of My Birthday Month

First thing I did when I saw Aslan today was proposed to him. It was very last minute, I had to  make do with a 50 cent coin. Not just any 50 cent coin, but dated 2005, the same year we first went out together.

What made it all random was the realization of today being a leap year. Everything is supposed to be the opposite today, or so they say. Perhaps is a celebration of eccentricity and whatnot. Leap year only happens once in four years, why not do something crazy on that very day?

I could only hope for the right answer and I also had a backup plan just incase things does not go according to plan. If the answer is a no, I would tell him everything was a joke. If yes, well, I would feel guilty for not planning ahead and buy a decent ring. Meh.

I guess proposing to a less than a morning person guy in the morning was not a good idea. It took several minutes before he could answer me back. He did not say no nor did he say yes. “I will marry you but could you please let me do things the traditional way?”

Later I realized his answer is both yes and no. Ha-ha. No wonder it took him so long to answer my proposal. He was computing the best answer to avoid any unwanted crisis or drama in our relationship.

Frankly, I wouldn’t feel mad or sad if he did say no because seriously, a woman proposing to a man? Not romantic lah. It makes me look desperate. Needy. Crazy. So un-ladylike.

Aslan was not exactly happy after I proposed to him. He said, “You took my moment…” His sadness did not last long. While he was preparing his breakfast, I could just see a little smirk on his face. I wonder what is he plotting?

My birthday month’s been great. A lot of rest and guess what, my holiday has been extended. I submitted my job application, now more waiting game. I called the editor twice. He said he will call me back. I am in dilemma of whether to call him again and ask about the status of my application. But I worry I might appear too persistent and pushy. But those traits are considered desirable in a journalist, aren’t they? Hmm…

But he did suggest I work part-time as a stringer while waiting for the actual confirmation from KL. At least that would give me something to do. Time to try out my luck then.

Sephora Make-up Haul

Last month, I went to KL, not once but twice. The first trip lasted a week and the second one, about 2 days minus traveling time. Amidst the hectic schedule, both business and leisure, I managed to do some make-up shopping at Sephora.

Personally, I think I enjoyed my shopping experience more at the KLCC branch. The staff are amazing compare to the I don’t care people at Bukit Bintang branch. KLCC staff are not only friendly but very professional. They greeted and attended to me the very moment I entered the door. The staff at bareMinerals counter sanitized the make-up brush before applying make-up on me.

It was completely different at the branch in Bukit Bintang. None of the staff bothered to greet nor attend anyone. They were busy chatting and gossiping with each other. I think I waited for 10 minutes before someone came to assist me. They didn’t seem to be happy that there were customers around. The lady did not sanitize the brush at all. She was helpful but it seemed like it was forced. Hmm…

Meh. Anyway, if you are planning to do some make-up shopping at Sephora KL, go to the KLCC branch, you won’t regret it!

So, here are my conquest from Sephora!

Make-up for 2012! I am sure it will last for two to three years!

I absolutely love bareMinerals! They are good for the skin and oh, the colors blend in so well! Since I am a newbie with this brand, I decided to try the starter kit! Worth every penny I tell you.

Versatile minerals!

Just a dab of the powder, you can cover the whole face easily. If you want it to be thicker, just increase the amount. You can also blend the colors to adjust to the tone of your skin. So far, I love the mineral veil, it makes my skin glow!

The staff suggested I blend medium and medium beige but to be honest, I can use either one on its own.

Mineral veil can also be used as a finishing powder but I love it so much, I sometimes just use only the mineral veil for my face. Warmth is perfect for bronzing and face contouring purposes.

Blusher powder is not included in the kit

Summer bisque is used for the region under the eyes. A quick solution for eye bags everything else.

Heavenly brushes are also included in the kit and I love the one in the middle! Fantastic brush!

The kit also comes with a tiny handbook on how to apply the powders as well as a cd. Quite easy and believe it or not, this brand is so good for your skin, you can even wear it to sleep. Click here for more information.

I also bought a whole lot of eyeshadow palettes. One set is never enough.

Simply divine! Lots of color and so many ways to pair them for the ultimate look!

 

Even comes with a little brochure on make-up styles and a primer for long lasting effect!

I am a sucker for eyeshadows with some glitter effect so I couldn’t resist this little wonder by Sephora…

Of Cars

On my birthday, I went to Tan Brothers to have a look at cars. I found two possible candidates.

BMW X5 4.4i 2003 (This is not the actual car, just a reference)

OR

Honda Crossroad 1.8 2007 (Again, just a reference)

I bet you will find it hard to believe that the Honda Crossroad is RM 20K more expensive than the BMW X5. The BMW X5 is a used car, that explains why it is cheap reasonably priced.

I’m not sure which of these cars I will bring home but you will find out soon enough. Pray that I will make the best decision.

Nothing like spending the first day of my birthday month in Singapore!

Took the afternoon flight via Air Asia (The only photo taken of this trip...)

We will be here until Friday before flying off to KK to attend Dave’s sister’s wedding.

We arrived at the hotel around 730pm. Once we settled down, we went to the mall downstairs, Raffles City to buy several things from the supermarket, etc. We walked to Bugis Junction where I bought some stuff for my family.

We did not do much after that. I didn’t even shop crazily like I usually do. I only bought two black slacks for myself for work. Boring.

Nevertheless, it was a good day and I am thankful for everything.

Let’s see what tomorrow brings.
